The Void Deck, And Everything Beyond
Written by our OG Bold Tribe member, Khloe Teo
Bold is moving from its void deck space, and I realised I don't quite know how to describe the space itself.
Instead, I remember how it felt.
I remember showing up without needing to already be good at something. There was never an expectation to be an expert. Just a gentle invitation: if your heart is curious, come and try.
Over the years, I held a polymer clay workshop there, facilitated forest bathing sessions for children, mixed cement for PARK(ing) Day 🤣, invited young friends from Hong Lim Hawker to teach boxing and make toast, took photos for the BOLD Team and recently, through TimeOff, found ourselves heading out on field trips beyond the walls of the space.
Maybe that's what this place has always been.
Not a physical space, but a permission slip.
A place that quietly reminds us there are other ways to live. A place where being imperfect isn't a problem. A place where experimentation, care, community and possibility are welcomed. A place where you can show up as you are, be seen, and be encouraged to be a little bolder than yesterday.
I have journeyed with the humans of BOLD for a while now, I feel immensely proud of what they hold.
The people, the attempts, the conversations, the dreams, the countless moments of trying.
The void deck may be changing.
But what was built there was always bigger than the space itself. what I'll remember most isn't the space itself, but how many people found the courage to be a little more bold because of it.
