A Defining Space For Growth And Possibility

An intern with Jerry, an intern who in turn evolved into a multi-faceted young person

1. What first brought you through the doors? What were you looking for at that point in your life?

I got my start at bold at work attending one of their curated events for NYC back in 2017. I was very inspired by the creativity and newness of how things can be done. That sparked my interest to create the same fun and insightful experiences for other youths who were in the same spot as I was - growing up and figuring out adulting.

2. What actually happened when you were here? Name one specific moment, conversation, or experience that stayed with you.

Interning at Bold was very eye-opening. Instead of the hustle culture of Corporate, I was shown freedom to learn what I need to to achieve the task of the season. This was where I first picked up Photoshop and Illustrator and created things from scratch, before AI was ever a thing. The kind of realization that I can make whatever I want as long as I put my heart and mind to learning something was pivotal. It allowed me to understand I can do so much more than I thought I could.

3. What did you take with you after leaving?

Definitely what I took away most when I was here is that everything is a work in progress and nothing is perfect. They are just opportunities to learn. Every classroom I step into and every participant I interact with, there is always something that "can be done better", but we also never forget "what went well" to pat ourselves on the back and learn good practices.

4. Where are you now, and how is that connected (if at all)?

I am currently working in Comms. I take photos, organise NDP, go on trips with Ministers. Through my time here learning facilitation and creating stories, my ability to listen, understand, and give feedback to serve is something I still use everyday. At my current work, I have to talk to many people - managing expectations, saying no, making meetings effective through facilitation so everyone leaves feeling they have gained something. I recently even had several chairmen ask me where I learnt facilitation because they want to send people to acquire my skills 😂

5. If the space did not exist, what would have been different?

If the space did not exist I wouldn't be where I am. The spirit of learning - eg. Learning photoshop, illustrator, and video editing allowed me to have a short stint as a creative, and become a valuable asset in my current team. My time at Bold @319 was the defining moment of my career trajectory where every possibility exploded into potential realities.
